Despite the best of care, animals can become ill and require extensive medical attention. Are you willing to provide the necessary treatment despite the fact that it could be very costly?*
Declawing a cat involves the amputation of the last bone of each toe on a cat’s paw, similar to cutting off a finger at the last knuckle. The typical method uses a scalpel or guillotine clipper, with wounds closed using stitches or surgical glue, and the feet bandaged.
Declawing can result in paw pain, back pain, infections, tissue necrosis (tissue death), and lameness. It alters the way a cat's feet interact with the ground, which can cause discomfort akin to wearing ill-fitting shoes. If claws are improperly removed, they may regrow, leading to nerve damage and bone spurs.
Declawing is banned or considered unethical in dozens of countries around the world. In the U.S., New York, Maryland, the District of Columbia and more than a dozen cities have banned declawing.
Do you agree to never declaw a cat and seek alternatives such as nail tips, trimming nails regularly, keeping scratching posts around the house?

If you rent or lease, please get in touch with your landlord or leasing company regarding their pet policies. If pets are not allowed, your application will be denied.
Call your vet and authorize them to release your pet's medical history to us. When we call the vet for reference and authorization has not been given, we will stop the application process and move to the next applicant.
If your pets are not spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, and on monthly heartworm medication, your application will be denied unless there are medical reasons confirmed by the veterinarian.
We are all volunteers in this organization with full-time jobs and families of our own, please do not submit an application knowing that your landlord/leasing company doesn’t allow pets, or if your pets are not up to date on vetting, spayed/neutered.
